The purpose of a Root Canal is to save a dead or dying tooth. The procedure consist of opening up the tooth from the top and using small instruments called files to remove the diseased and inflamed nerve from the inside. The dentist will then remove any remaining bacteria or infection present and cleanse the inside of the tooth with rinses.
After the tooth is sufficiently cleaned, the empty canals will be disinfected with the WATERLASE MD LASER and filled with a rubbery material. This material takes the place of the removed nerve and helps the body to heal areas of infection and inflammation that are outside the end of the tooth's root.
When the root canal is completed, a temporary restoration is done. After healing, a permanent restoration is necessary. For back teeth this usually involves a foundational filling and a CROWN. Some teeth due to their complexity are referred out to the endodontist or root canal specialist.
